This Easy Frankenstein Guacamole Dip for Halloween is a fun, festive, and delicious appetizer that’s perfect for any spooky gathering. It’s a creamy, zesty guacamole base decorated to look like Frankenstein’s monster, guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe avocados
  • 1 medium lime, juiced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 medium Roma tomato, seeded and diced (optional)
  • 2 black olives (for decoration)
  • 1 slice red bell pepper (for decoration)
  • 1 small piece cucumber or celery (for decoration)
  • 12 tablespoons sour cream or Greek yogurt (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Cut each avocado in half lengthwise around the pit. Twist the halves apart. Remove the pit by carefully whacking it with the blade of your knife so it sticks, then twist and lift it out. Scoop the flesh into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Using a potato masher or fork, mash the avocado to your desired consistency (chunky or smooth).
  3. Pour the fresh lime juice over the mashed avocado. Add the chopped red onion, minced jalapeño, chopped cilantro, salt, and pepper. If using diced tomato, add it now. Stir everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. For best flavor, cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap (pressing it directly onto the surface of the guacamole) and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  5. Spread the chilled guacamole onto a serving platter or shallow bowl. Use the back of a spoon to create a smooth, even surface, shaping it into a rounded rectangle or oval (like Frankenstein’s head).
  6. Place the two black olive slices in the upper half of the guacamole face, about an inch apart, for the eyes.
  7. Place the two small pieces of cucumber or celery on the sides of the head, near the top, for the bolts.
  8. Arrange the slice of red bell pepper just below the eyes to form a jagged, stitched-looking mouth.
  9. Fill a small piping bag or zip-top bag with the sour cream or Greek yogurt. Snip a tiny corner off the bag. Pipe a few small, straight lines or dashes across the monster’s forehead to look like a scar or stitches. Optionally, add a small dot of sour cream to the center of each olive eye for a ‘glint’.
  10. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, veggie sticks, or pretzel crisps.

Notes

For the best flavor, use ripe avocados that yield to gentle pressure. The lime juice helps prevent browning. If making ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating. Add the monster face decorations just before serving for the freshest look. For a milder dip, use half a jalapeño or omit it entirely.
