A quick and easy one-pan baked salmon recipe with fresh asparagus and a tangy lemon butter sauce, perfect for a fuss-free, flavorful dinner.

Ingredients

  • Salmon fillets (about 6 ounces / 170 grams each, skin-on or skinless based on preference)
  • Fresh asparagus (1 bunch, about 1 pound / 450 grams), trimmed and tough ends snapped off
  • Unsalted butter (4 tablespoons / 60 grams, melted)
  • Fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • Dijon mustard (1 teaspoon, optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh parsley (2 tablespoons, chopped)
  • Olive oil (1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together 4 tablespoons (60 grams) of melted unsalted butter, juice of 1 lemon, 2 minced garlic cloves, and 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Snap off the woody ends of the asparagus. Toss the asparagus spears in 1 tablespoon olive oil, a pinch of salt, and pepper to coat evenly.
  4. Arrange asparagus on a baking sheet in a single layer. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down (if skin-on) in the center or one side of the sheet pan.
  5. Brush the salmon generously with the lemon butter sauce. Reserve some sauce for drizzling halfway through cooking.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast for 12 minutes. At the 6-minute mark, pull the tray out briefly and spoon the remaining lemon butter sauce over the salmon and asparagus.
  7. Check for doneness: salmon should flake easily with a fork but still look moist inside; asparagus should be tender yet crisp with slightly browned tips.
  8. Sprinkle fresh chopped parsley over the dish and serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan to avoid soggy asparagus. Use room temperature salmon for even cooking. Brush lemon butter sauce twice for best flavor and moisture. Cooking times may vary with salmon thickness; add 2-3 minutes for thicker cuts. Use fresh lemon juice for brightness. For dairy-free, substitute butter with plant-based alternatives or olive oil and omit Dijon mustard or use vegan mustard.
