Tender, smoky pork ribs glazed with a naturally sweet, date-sweetened paleo BBQ sauce. This recipe is quick, easy, and perfect for gatherings without refined sugars.

  • 3 pounds pork baby back ribs, membrane removed
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup pitted Medjool dates, soaked in warm water for 15 minutes
  • ½ cup tomato paste (no added sugar)
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup water (to thin sauce if needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 275°F (135°C). Remove membrane from ribs and pat dry.
  2. In a large bowl, mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Rub evenly over ribs and let rest 10-15 minutes.
  3. Drain soaked dates and blend with tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, coconut aminos, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and ¼ cup water until smooth. Add more water if needed for pourable consistency.
  4. Place ribs meat-side up on a foil-lined baking sheet. Tent tightly with foil and bake for 2.5 to 3 hours until tender and pulling from bone.
  5. Remove top foil, brush ribs generously with date-sweetened BBQ sauce. Broil on high for 5-7 minutes until sauce caramelizes and forms a sticky glaze, watching closely to avoid burning.
  6. Let ribs rest 5 minutes after broiling. Slice between bones and serve with extra sauce.
