A quick and easy summer mocktail combining fresh strawberries, basil, lemon juice, simple syrup, and sparkling water for a light, refreshing drink perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 810 fresh basil leaves, gently torn or chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup sparkling water, chilled
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and hull about 1 cup of fresh strawberries. Quarter them for easier muddling. Gently tear or chop 8-10 fresh basil leaves.
  2. Place the strawberries and basil in your mixing glass or jar. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, press gently to crush the strawberries and bruise the basil leaves to release juices and oils.
  3. Pour in 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of simple syrup. Stir gently to combine. Adjust sweetness if needed.
  4. Fill the glass or pitcher with ice cubes to chill. Slowly pour in 1 cup of chilled sparkling water. Stir gently to mix without losing bubbles.
  5. Pour the mocktail into serving glasses. Garnish each with a fresh basil sprig and a thin lemon slice.

Notes

Gently muddle basil leaves to avoid bitterness. Pour sparkling water slowly and stir gently to preserve bubbles. Adjust simple syrup to taste depending on berry sweetness. Best served immediately for optimal fizz and fresh flavor. Can prep muddled mixture ahead and add sparkling water before serving.
