spooky witches brew green punch - featured image

A theatrical, non-alcoholic Halloween punch featuring lime sherbet, lemon-lime soda, and dry ice for a bubbling, foggy green effect that serves as a stunning party centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups lime sherbet, softened
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda (e.g., 7Up or Sprite), cold
  • 12 drops green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 pound dry ice (handled with tongs/gloves)
  • 1 cup ice cubes (optional, for serving)
  • Gummy worms (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place the punch bowl on a stable surface; optionally freeze the bowl for an hour beforehand for extra chilling.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened lime sherbet and fresh lime juice. Whisk until smooth to create a creamy base.
  3. Slowly pour the cold lemon-lime soda into the sherbet mixture to avoid excessive foaming. Stir gently.
  4. Add the green food coloring and stir gently to distribute the color evenly until the punch is a vibrant green.
  5. Break the dry ice into golf-ball-sized chunks using tongs. Place chunks in a separate Styrofoam container until ready to serve.
  6. Just before serving, add 1-2 chunks of dry ice to the punch bowl to start the fog effect. Add more chunks every 15-20 minutes as needed to maintain the fog.
  7. Ladle the punch into cups, ensuring guests are warned not to consume the dry ice chunks.
  8. Garnish with gummy worms and serve immediately.

Notes

Never handle dry ice with bare hands as it can cause frostbite. Do not put dry ice in sealed containers due to explosion risk. Ensure the area is well-ventilated. The dry ice sublimes into gas and should not be consumed. For a dairy-free version, substitute lime sherbet with strawberry sorbet and use club soda.
